Spiritual Fulfillment Through Cheerful Service

Founded by Gopher, Lizard, and Broom on 02/14/2026, The Camp Legends Fellowship is an independant, non-sectarian, nature based religious organization of volunteers working together as a family on sacred lands to support outdoor youth programs across Western, Central, and Upstate NY.

Comprised of members from all over the region with experience in camps run by Scouting America, the YMCA, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and others, our congregation is made up of Teachers, Firefighters, EMTs, Engineers, Musicians, Enhanced Needs Specialists, Veterans, First Responders, Law Enforcement, and those dedicated to supporting each other, community youth, and preserving, protecting, and propogating the traditions and culture of camps lost to time.

Who We Are

The Camp Legends Fellowship was inspired by the Seneca Waterways Council's Cub Resident Camp and Webelosree volunteer staff who worked at former Camp Babcock-Hovey from 2015-2021. The events, culture, traditions, and love of the land they cultivated became a multi-generational wonder of spiritual, physical, and emotional growth truly beautiful to behold and life-changing to take part in.

Where We Are Going

As more and more camps across New York State have been lost to time (Beechwood, Hovey, Dittmer, Chatham, Sabatis, and the list grows), it became a moral, ethical, and religious imperative that their culture and traditions be preserved, protected, and propogated at whichever camps would have us.

Camp Cutler in Naples NY, Camp Sam Wood in Portageville NY, Camp Scouthaven in Freedom NY, and Camp Woodland in Constantia NY all opened their hearts and hearths to us and enabled the Camp Legends to continue our divine purpose and provide safe, fun, and educational outdoor programs to youth from Syracuse to Buffalo!

What We Can Do Together

There is no end to the joy we can bring to ourselves, each other, and the families of our communities through cheerful service. Volunteering to teach our youth essential survival and critical thinking skills while simultaneously witnessing so MANY firsts (first bullseye, first fish, first time across that monkey bridge, first fire, first shelter, etc.) is a truly noble endeavor, and for many of us provides a religious elation that can only be achieved by returning to camp and doing it all over again.

The Why And How Of Camp Legends

Camp Legends do because they have a deep motivation to serve others and a profound love and respect for nature and the land. They are passionate about trying their absolute best no matter the task. Camp Legends volunteer first and go where need is greatest. They arrive early, stay late, and give ample notice if unable to support a promise. Legends are calm under pressure and offer solutions as alternatives to criticisms. They are respectful and kind even when stern out of necessity. Legends are loyal, playful, and serious about safety and the well being of others always. Legends persist through adversity and work to bridge gaps across any and all bounderies, while holding to standards that go above and beyond. Ask a Camp Legend if they have any camp memories they would like to share that are meaningful...ask them how they got their camp name...ask them if they would reccommend it.

In order to serve, volunteers need materials and resources and youth organizations are stretched thin as it is. Simple things like event patches, t-shirts, basic food service, materials and supplies, all are becoming more expensive and harder to acquire, so the Camp Legends Fellowship seeks to provide essentials and opportunities at core events and programs. There are so many ways Legends contribute and everything they do goes to support the youth throughout the year. Self sufficiency is the only way. The options below represent just a few of the volunteer opportunities we offer. Which ones bring you joy?
