The Dittmer Legacy

Many volunteers who came to Babcok-Hovey's closing events were originally from Camp Dittmer in Phelps NY, which was closed right after Hovey in 2022 following the merger of Iroquois Trail Council and The Greater Niagra Frontier Council.

Once Lotus, Colonel, Salamander, Yuke, Bean, Griz, and the rest of THEIR volunteer family saw what the Hovey-Legends were doing and that we all shared the same common volunteer culture and love of the camps we served, they immediately joined our conservation efforts.

Camp Sam Wood and Scouthaven were added to our support list in 2023 along with their Cub Resident Camp, Family Camp, and Day Camp events, and now we have Camp Directors from BOTH CAMPS (Gopher and Lotus) working for EACH OTHER at multiple events every year! To my knowledge this is the only cross-council Camp Director partnership that currently exists in all of western and central NY.
